In The Beginning

There I was, thinking about my old Karma, and how to clean it up. I don't regret my years as a political activist, but I do regret what a zealot and malcontent I was. No matter how peaceful your politics-- and mine weren't very peaceful-- all political activism is based on the premise that there is something wrong with the world. I do not hold the same beliefs anymore. I like to stay focused on the positive, and that things will work out somehow.

So, I wanted to do something to counteract all of the rabid, know-it-all, discontent I stirred up when I was younger. (Although I do agree with the French saying "If you are not a Socialist at 20 you have no heart, but if you are still a Socialist at 50 you have no mind.")

Originally this was also going to be a kind of interactive performance art piece, too. I meant for the flyers to be easily misidentified as religous, or possibly advertising. I was interested in what sort of responses I would get. At the time, I was also going to hand out a penny with every flyer. This was to offset the Karma I created while fundraising for political activities. I was going to wash each penny and write "Luck" on the heads side and "Love" on the tails side.

After I started reading Louise L. Hay's YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE and came to fully embrace her concept that self-love is the basis for all positive change and healing, the current flyers just sort of developed. And once the project ceased to be a "happening" and became a serious endeavour to CHANGE THE WORLD, or something to that effect, the pennies suddenly seemed very labour-intensive. Although I may incorporate the pennies at a later date.

Recently I have been putting flyers on car windshields, and I actually like this better. That way, the recipient has no interaction with me at all, and his/her response is undiluted by any opinion of me or my appearance, etc. I will still hand them out personally, however.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
YOU ARE AMAZING!

THE PINK FLYER

Here it is, on a white background. If you want to make copies, please use bright pink paper, if possible.
